It is rumored that Apple will release the next iOS 15.2 and iPad OS 15.2 soon, but it is reported that new features will be added and new features will be postponed.

The source of the information is Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple's inside information. In recent years, it has been customary that the initial version of the new iOS (iOS 12 to 15 this year) does not have important new features, but this is unintentional. Apple's Soft Engineering Group's product management team is reportedly trying to reduce the features of major releases to avoid delays in adding new features, but it's not working.

Major new features added in iOS 15.2 / iPadOS 15.2

Apple announced in August this year that it will introduce three new features to iOS aimed at protecting children. That is, it is detected when a child receives or tries to send a sexual photo with a message app. The second is that it will be easier to obtain information such as where to consult to report child abuse with Siri. Finally, it is a technology that can detect CSAM (content that depicts sexually explicit activities involving children) stored in iCloud.

The third of these, iCloud detection, has been postponed because it has led to a backlash from privacy experts. According to Gurman, iOS 15.2 will provide the first two features, and it's unclear when the CSAM detection feature will be implemented.

The mechanism of the message app protection function for children first analyzes the images sent to and received from the child's iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and checks for nude images. And if detected, the image will be blurred and a warning will be displayed for children. You will also be warned if your child tries to send a nude image.

In either case, the child can contact the parent via the messaging app, but the parent will not be automatically notified. This is different from the "automatically notify parents" behavior announced in August. In addition, parents must enable it on their Family Shared Account to use this feature.

In iOS 15.2, a button has been added to automatically disable the macro lens when approaching the subject with the camera app. With the iPhone 13 Pro model, if you capture a subject within about 14 cm, it automatically switches from a wide-angle lens to an ultra-wide-angle lens, and it has been unpopular that it can not be turned off, but it is finally supported.

It is said that it will be displayed which function each application accessed, such as location information, camera, microphone, etc. Also, network activities on individual websites will be revealed.

If the user dies, the previously set legacy contact, or "data heir", will be granted access. To actually access the deceased's data, you will also need a copy of the deceased's death certificate (which does not exist in Japan, but is comparable to a doctor's "death certificate").

A cheap plan of "Siri operation only for $ 5 per month" announced at the new Mac announcement event in October is implemented. This feature was also mentioned in the iOS 15.2 Release Candidate patch notes.

Features not yet added

This is a feature that allows you to share multiple iPads with a single keyboard or mouse / trackpad. It was supposed to be postponed immediately after the iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey were delivered, but it seems that we will have to wait a little longer.

A feature that allows you to save a digital version of your driver's license or ID card in the Wallet app on your iPhone for everyday use in some states of the United States or present it to the TSA (Transport Security Administration) at the airport. It quietly announced the postponement until early 2022.

The last thing that will end up with a significant delay in new iOS features, Gurman denies, "it's not." That's because Apple's software division has to develop a whole new "rOS" for the company's first MR (Mixed Reality) headset, in addition to new versions of all other operating systems.

If you are so serious about MR headsets, you may be able to expect an official announcement within a few months.
